Muir Mustangs Mini-Camp
November 2009
Alumni basketball coach, Gamal Smalley hosted a camp for Brotherhood Crusade Youth Sports League players. In his first season as the John Muir basketball, Head Coach Gamal Smalley suited up his Jr. Varsity and Varsity players, as well as the coaching staff, and began to teach the BHC kids skills and drills. While defense was the emphasis, offense was not far behind. Kids from four to fourteen were taught everything they needed to know about being a successful basketball player and a success in life. It was a special treat for the BHC kids to learn Adream Hayes and Jelani Mitchell were former BHC basketball players.
The players finished on a positive note, while participating in scrimmages coached by the John Muir players. There were plenty of smiles to be had and everyone left with a warm feeling of success. The BHC participants appeared during the Muir season and presented the team with a plaque, while director Victor McClinton spoke to the Muir players about how they are now considered coaches and role models for the BHC players and to conduct themselves in a positive manner at all times.
The John Muir Mustangs went on a winning run and considered the BHC as their lucky charm.

KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO is proud to honor people who have made extraordinary contributions to our community or performed heroic actions in a time of need.
For Victor McClinton, itâs all about building self-esteem...and having fun at the same time. Victor has been involved with youth sports for 27 years... ever since high school when he volunteered to work with kids at a rec center in Huntington Park. Victor tells me he grew up without a father, so he bonded with his high school coaches...and says heâs just following in their footsteps. At 16, Victor started at the bottom learning how to mark a ï¬eld...then he moved to coaching basketball, track, soccer and ï¬ag football. Now he runs the Brotherhood Crusade Youth Sports League with his wife and two teen-age sons.
